Taking Sabbatical!

31 07 2007

I looked up the word Sabbatical and its definition pretty well describes what I am going to be doing.

A sabbatical year is a prolonged hiatus, typically one year, in the career of an individual taken in order to fulfill some goal, e.g., writing a book or traveling extensively for research.

Well, I guess it is time to finally fess up that none of this stuff out here on the internet really works. I would like to say it is just me, but unfortunately there are a large number of us out here that are now realizing that None of this is really all worth it.

I will be taking a sabbatical to work on my next book that I will be outlining all of the fallacies of the internet…until then you may want to check out my other book to catch up on what is going on.

You can check out the periodic blogs I will post over at my main site, IBGS Blog. Hope you enjoy the archive of blogs I have posted here.

Business Golf: Golf That Solves Problems

3 01 2007

Over the next few months I will be in the middle of writing my next book on Business Golf and as things pop up for me to write about I will provide them here on the Business Golf Blog Site. I will also be producing Audio versions of he blogs on the Mr Business Golf Show Podcasting site at http://clickcaster.com/businessgolf

When it comes to solving problems in the business world you need to have information and almost every time that information needs to be gathered from the people who help you do business. This could be your customers, you vendors and definitely your employees. But, to get the information from them, you need to gain their trust.

Trust? Yes, there is no way I am going to trust you to do anything positive with the information I provide you on solving a problem if I cannot trust you. And you could not trust that what I am providing you is worthy unless you trust me.

Kind of a stalemate isn’t? This type of stand off goes on in the business world all of the time and bosses, managers, executives and business owners all try to find ways to overcome or break the friction that sometimes is generated between customers, vendors and employees.

Trust is something that cannot be bought or given away. Trust is one of the few things left that has to be earned. Yes, earning trust is what makes problem solving possible.

I had a boss who earned my trust and from the moment the trust was earned there was not a problem she and I could not face off and not solve. It does work and I can dare say that when there is trust involved in any business situation the best will come about from the trust.

So how do you earn trust? Spending time to get to know the person is the only way. Get to know the customer as a person. That is what my boss did and it worked. Get to know the vendors as a person. And get to know the employees as people and not a number.

What is a way to get to know someone? Well, have you hear about Business Golf? Business Golf is not just taking someone out for a round of golf and then pitch them on something, or bug the heck of them on something about business while they are playing golf….no, Business Golf is purposeful and you have to learn how to play business golf before you can use golf as a way to earn trust in or from someone.

Golf has a built in mechanism that forces trust to be displayed…either true trustworthiness or mistrust comes out in a person starting at the first tee. Trust cannot not be contrived when playing golf, you are either trustworthy, or not…

There are too many examples for how golf can demonstrate a person’s trustworthiness to go into here, but those golfers out there know that if someone hits their ball out in the woods three times and then hacks his way to the green to three putt to score a five is someone you can trust is not trustworthy if they can’t record a true score. This is just one example that golf provides insight into how a person is put together.

How a person is on the golf course is how they will be in the boardroom, or the workplace of business. And if someone is trustworthy in Golf they are most likely going to be trustworthy in life and business. And people open up to people they trust.

When there is an open line of communications to the decision makers of business then there are solutions to problems that can be made that could not have had been made before when the communications was closed.

Learn to play business golf and find the answers to the problems you are having in business… but be prepared, the problem could be you.

Michelle Wie Going to Stanford: Has Reasoning Set In?

19 12 2006

The news on Michelle Wie announcing that she was accepted at Stanford now puts another twist to the plot…is Michelle going to turn Professional?  IS she going to make the smart move and play some College Golf while getting an education to fall back on when the 15 minutes of fame runs out?  Or is this all just another way of staying in the news over the Winter to make her sponsor, Sony, happy and sell a few more large screen TV’s?

I say her heading to College and get an educations would be the smartest thing to do…she has plenty of years to play her way into the Masters…more playing experience at a competitive level will also toughen her up for that challenge she will face…

skype_logo.pngI am trying to picture in my mind people walking down the street with earphone and microphone headsets hooked into their PDA or laptop like a cellphone on their belt, talking on the phone…just can’t see how I would want to pay for that…but SkyPe is cool and Techmeme has a lot to say about it today.

‘I Agree’

12 12 2006

As part of my search for Web 2.0 and beyond sites, I will start blogging my thoughts andsteve_high_res.jpg the links to people and sites that I agree with and feel will be around for awhile…  I was tracing trough the Techmeme.com site and found one for you to check out.

I could be wrong, but Steve Rubel and his Micro Persuasion site seem to be heading in the right direction…hopeful Mr Business Golf can give him a little nudge in the direction of telling us all like it is with social media and how it can be used in the future…like January 2007.

Check him out…
