Taking Sabbatical!

31 07 2007

I looked up the word Sabbatical and its definition pretty well describes what I am going to be doing.

A sabbatical year is a prolonged hiatus, typically one year, in the career of an individual taken in order to fulfill some goal, e.g., writing a book or traveling extensively for research.

Well, I guess it is time to finally fess up that none of this stuff out here on the internet really works. I would like to say it is just me, but unfortunately there are a large number of us out here that are now realizing that None of this is really all worth it.

I will be taking a sabbatical to work on my next book that I will be outlining all of the fallacies of the internet…until then you may want to check out my other book to catch up on what is going on.

You can check out the periodic blogs I will post over at my main site, IBGS Blog. Hope you enjoy the archive of blogs I have posted here.

Second Life: 1.9Millon what?

12 12 2006

Please, someone tell me why we need to believe that this site has 1.9 million members. And why would anyone care?   I have a few million bacteria running around on me someplace, I am about as impressed with Second Life having that many members. Clay Shirky over at ValleyWag tells the story…

‘I Agree’

12 12 2006

As part of my search for Web 2.0 and beyond sites, I will start blogging my thoughts andsteve_high_res.jpg the links to people and sites that I agree with and feel will be around for awhile…  I was tracing trough the Techmeme.com site and found one for you to check out.

I could be wrong, but Steve Rubel and his Micro Persuasion site seem to be heading in the right direction…hopeful Mr Business Golf can give him a little nudge in the direction of telling us all like it is with social media and how it can be used in the future…like January 2007.

Check him out…

Reaction To Yahoo Reorg Mixed

12 12 2006

The reaction to Yahoo’s Reorg is getting a mixed reaction from Wall Street.  Damage control from Yahoo’s mismanagement is going to be hard to do…meanwhile, how is quality doing for some of their services….looks like they need a brilliant COO to pull the CEO out of this jam…

Offshore Outsourcing: Glad that is Almost Over With!

12 12 2006

Not sure I agree with the businessweek.com report on offshore outsourcing.  The Costs of fixing the problems that offshore outsourcing companies were hired to solve are getting high and making American business go back to using employees who know what they are talking about to represent their helpdesk and customer service.

MySpace Viewed More Than Yahoo?

12 12 2006

The report of MySpace getting more views than Yahoo, can anyone validate that?  NO they can’t.  If this is true it is probably gawkers going over to MySpace to take a look at the next Tribe.net and how a site that is heading south in the interest meter is heading..

CogMap: If You Get Lost In Your Company

10 12 2006

OK, here is the biggest WTF site I have found, outside some that Rex Dixon atcogmap_logo.gif Technically Speaking has found.

CogMap.com… here is a site where you go and build an organizational chart of your organization.  It reports to be for people who need to keep track of who is working in their department and who they all report to….

Don’t believe me, here is what they say..

“What is CogMap?

CogMap is the Wikipedia of organization charts. We are an organization chart wiki! This means that it is a collection of organization charts online that anyone can edit, add to, and help maintain.

CogMap is a tool for sales people, entrepreneurs, and recruiters to understand organizations and keep information up to date. If you are like us, you had some of these things happen to you:

·         Worked at a company without a published organization chart and had no idea who worked for anyone else

·         Tried to figure out who to call at a company and come up empty

·         Bought a list of people to call and had all the information be wrong

·         Met people that all had different titles and been unable to tell who was the decision-maker in the room!”

CogMap is from the No Inc, Company, a web creation group that is out of Maryland…and from this remark made on the CogMap site:

“About CogMap

We are some passionate people with an interesting idea trying to make our way in the big world. Help us out!”

Looks like there might be a few people here thinking they may make a bundle on this site and be wearing Open Toe Sandals before long…or Not!

Now, Mr Business Golf says, that if you do not know who you are reporting to when you go to work for someone then you need more than a chart…I would say that you need a new JOB.

Good site with good intentions and probably has a purpose and a niche somewhere…I am sure No Inc will figure it out.
